SIO Comment Archives Opened
7:08 pm | SIO | Comments: 5
Ever wonder why the first couple hundred SIO posts are so dismally commented upon? Wonder no longer; you can now read the dismally commented-upon posts in their natural habitat, complete with dismal comments! Head on over to our old address sio.blogspot.com to check them out. Many thanks to Haloscan for giving basic members access to all comments (rather than the last hundred) and also to Mark for pointing out that Haloscan had done it.

Nostalgilogical

For those of you who are new to SIO, over two years of archived posts might seem a bit daunting. Maybe you don’t want to delve into the depths of the grand history of Set It Off; you’re lazy, but we’re still willing to accomodate you. To give you a taste of what lies beneath the innocent-looking archive links, and to give you a bit of a SIO history lesson, here in no particular order are 10 important posts dating from mid-2004.
Brevity is the Order of the Day: A great piece of relationship advice, and also the shortest post in SIO history (learned ones will no doubt know of a post with less text, however that’s actually the caption to a picture).
Gorillas in the Mist: In which James offers practical hygenic advice, only to be attacked by well-meaning yet misguided individuals, after which a rousing debate follows.
Shadows: My personal favorite bit of story-telling. In retrospect it’s depressing, but it still makes some valid commentary on the human experience. The fact is that most commentary on the human experience will depress people.
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish: There is perhaps no greater display of weblog hooliganry on the internet than in the comments of this innocent post. The amount of hours poured into the nonsense you’ll find attached to this post is unfathomable, and it certainly amounts a comment record which will stand forever like a great obelisk towering over a pack of monkeys.
Democratic Process, the Terrorist Way: Often have there been references on SIO to Islam and the Middle East crisis and this basically sums it all up.
Muppets and Psychology: Some in-depth analysis of important issues which is typical of SIO posts.
The Truth Shall Make You Free: Although a Hardcore Christian, I don’t often make posts regarding my faith. But when I do, I do so with a Bible blazing in each hand dropping doctrinal error like so many flies hitting a buglamp.
My House: Of the scattered bits of poety I’ve posted this is my personal favorite. Most people would have no clue what it’s talking about, but poets don’t care about that.
The Beginning of the End: It’s fitting to include SIO’s first post in this list, with its somber reminder of the finite nature of things on this earth.
This Just In: I threw this one in because I felt I should have ten posts in this list. Aside from that, it was a great moment when I showed up the rest of the world by proving Frank Oz was not dead.

I’ve Looked at Life from Both Sides Now

Allow me to be the first to wish SIO a very happy second birthday. The festivities this year are somewhat subdued in comparison with last year, but the party hat is back! This past year has brought many moments of various emotional extremity: joy, love, melancholyitude, and sheer terror. College has passed; the long, dark winter of work awaits me. The lines go very deep now; I always try to think 12-15 moves ahead. Many, many moves are to be made in the near future, all leading to the ultimate goal. Not killing kings and queens and bishops, though that might seem desirable for the moment. What’s the goal, you ask. Isn’t that the question mankind has been asking since we all became enemies of God? I think it is, though I have the answer. Tell me, Mr. Deadman, do you have the answer? Repent and believe! Glorify God and enjoy him forever. Life isn’t so complicated when you look at it though the lenses of eternity. If this is a recurring theme in my weblog posts, then I have been successful. Many happy returns.

Forward, Ever Forward

As many of you may have noticed, some changes have been made to SIO lately. We’ve been experimenting with as much of the functionality of Wordpress as possible. This week we’re proud to introduce Categorized Content, which distills the wide-ranging richness of SIO into organized compilations of amazingitude. Not only will this help one and all in enjoying the SIO archives more efficiently, it will make other things easier for me such as not having to re-post all the pictures on a pictures page (now all you have to do to see pictures is go to the Pictures category). We’ve also recently added the Top 50 SIO Commentors and some other random little things that Wordpress can do.
You may have also noticed the absence of the Broke College Kid. The B.C.K. has closed shop, pending his graduation. If you didn’t make use of the B.C.K.’s wise and practical advice, you really missed out. Soon, though, we will release a condensed version of all his mighty wisdom for the masses to enjoy.

Recognition
2:42 pm | SIO | Comments: 17
The SIO 2nd Anniversary is looming on the horizon (only 2 months away or so) and we have decided to honor the Top 50 SIO Commentors by giving them their own section of the Sidebar (see the sidebar). SIO is all about me, but without you it would just be me! Not only does this give recognition to those who have made vaulable and legitimate contributions to SIO, the list contains many anomalies which can only be explained by either A) a thorough understanding of the modern history of SIO or B) magic. All that aside, many thanks to the commentors of SIO!
Note: Many hundreds of comments made in the early days of SIO have been lost for all eternity thanks to Haloscan.

Fighting the Good Fight
1:43 pm | SIO | Comments: 3
In honor of our update from Wordpress 1.5 to Wordpress 2.0.2, we at SIO thought it fitting to explain in a little detail how we protect you and your families from annoying and often dubious spam comments and (more prominently) RandomChat™ shouts. Every comment or RandomChat™ shout leaves an IP address. In fact, every visitor to SIO leaves an IP address (in case you didn’t know, you can view them all by clicking the button above the counter on the sidebar). Spam-perpetrating IP addresses are copied into a list, after which the offending material is removed completely from the SIO databases. The addresses are then added to a very simple and highly effective IP blocking method called a “.htaccess” file. By this means we are able to preserve the delicate moral sensitivities of all SIO readers and slowly but surely keep unwanted activities from occurring. In addition to providing you with this valuable and comforting information, we will soon be making our complete list of banned IP addresses (and ranges) available for all to see and implement wherever necessary.

Hypocrite of the Day
9:21 am | Culture | SIO | Comments: 23
Apparently some voice actor that worked 10 years with the ridicu-blasphemous cartoon South Park is quitting because the show aired an episode mocking Scientology, the actor’s own religion. He cited the fact that he thought South Park had stepped over the line from satire to “intolerance and bigotry”. What’s so pathetic about this person and this statement is that South Park has been mocking most religion since it started. I’ve seen one full episode (in a class), and the other episode I watched part of I turned off because it was incredibly blasphemous in every sense of the word. I couldn’t have said it better myself than did Matt Stone in the article linked above: “He (the actor) got a sudden case of religious sensitivity when it was his religion featured on the show. ” I say take the filthy show off the air entirely.
In other news, please note the recent changes to SIO: there is now a handy pop-up window option for the music player! Also, I have separated the Xangas (pronounced “Lame-ga’s”) from the real weblog links to preserve the real weblog links from spot and blemish.

Public Service Announcement
1:52 am | SIO | Comments: 7
In the interest of preserving the clean and unsoiled conscience of our nation’s youth, the great and glorious RandomChat has been temporarily disabled due to an attack by spambots of an unknown origin. That it would come to this is a cause for great sorrow among the peoples.
In other news, mid-terms are now over! May the beer flow like wine and all the tests be little ones. That being said, I believe it’s obvious that the Detroit Red Wings own you all. So long, and thanks for all the fish.
